Head-baskets and women selling from crates share one market yard. Denis Rousseau gives these different activities room within a single gathering. The eye passes between people standing and people seated, finding the scene’s rhythm in their different positions. There is space for each small exchange within the company of the whole, keeping our attention close to the activity.
