About the work

Hydrangeas fill three wooden planters arranged in a row. The repeated boxes give the flowers an orderly setting without losing their fullness. Looking moves from one cluster to the next, finding the quiet pleasure of variety within a simple arrangement. Each part offers another pause for the eye before our attention returns to the company of the whole.

Round heads in blue, violet, pink and pale green are worked in short, thick dabs. Large green leaves sit between them against ochre ground. A signature and date appear at the lower left.
